Hiding on the south bank of the River Ouse where it widens to become the Humber Estuary is our magical reserve, Blacktoft Sands.
A wonderful variety of wildlife, from birds of prey like marsh harriers to mammals like hares and water voles, makes it home here. From our wheelchair-accessible hides, you can get spectacular views of them going about their business, resting, playing and raising families.
In spring, watch elegant avocets on our pools. Later in summer, look out for butterflies and dragonflies whizzing past as you stroll along our short trails.
Each season is different, and with every visit, you'll spot something new. So don't delay - plan a visit to Blacktoft Sands and see what you can find.

Opening details
Reserve is open all year round 09:00 until 21:00 (or dusk if earlier).
The reception hut open daily from 09:00 until 17:00, April to October or at weekends from 09:00 until 16:00, November to March.

By Road:
The reserve is on the minor road off the A161 through Reedness and Ousefleet. Entrance just after Ousefleet, carpark and overspill go through main carpark to disabled parking.
By Public Transport:
Buses leave from Goole and Scunthorpe, Monday to Friday and every few hours on Saturdays, stopping opposite the reserve entrance.
