Hornsea Mere is the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire and the final remnant of a huge wetland that once featured many smaller meres and marshy areas.

The Trans Pennine Trail is a multi-user route across the North of England from Southport to Hornsea and with north - south route from Leeds to Chesterfield, plus a spur to York.
